# THE LIBRARY
You quietly step into the Library.
The door closes behind you with a reassuring click, leaving the world outside
pleasantly distant. Beneath your feet, a dark oak herringbone floor creaks
softly as though acknowledging your arrival. It is the kind of room
that has been lived in for many years without ever feeling old.
Tall bookshelves line the walls, reaching almost to the ceiling. Their shelves
are filled with volumes of every size and colour, collected over
decades from places both familiar and forgotten. Some stand perfectly
upright, while others lean gently against their neighbours, as though
continuing conversations that began long before anyone entered the room.
One shelf appears devoted not to books, but to curious objects that have
found their way here over the years. Among them rests an
Acer Iconia A1-810,
carefully labelled and waiting for whoever wishes to borrow it.
Near the large window rests a well-worn leather armchair beside a small round
table. It seems to have been placed there for no purpose other than quiet
reading. Across the room stands a sturdy writing desk with neatly
stacked papers, a fountain pen resting in its holder, several small drawers,
a brass reading lamp, and the pleasant untidiness of a place where ideas are
regularly given permission to exist.
Heavy curtains frame the great window.
Beyond the glass...
...it is a perfectly clear night.
A bright moon hangs above slow-moving clouds whose shapes seem to change only
when you are not paying attention. The stars are unusually sharp tonight,
and the light they cast is bright enough to illuminate the tops of the
trees in the distance.
Beside the door is an ordinary light switch.
A small brass label beneath it simply reads:
**DAY / NIGHT**
The room is quiet.
Not empty.
Just listening.
You are welcome to stay as long as you like.
Visitors often find it worthwhile to keep borrowed items together.
Some have a habit of becoming useful again.
